     ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico— More than five decades of thrills have unfolded across the deserts, mountains, and beaches of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, with the spectacular SCORE Baja 500—the Round 2 of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship, now open for registration at www.Score-International.com. This off-road race is part of the “Baja Triple Crown,” alongside the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 and the SCORE San Felipe 250.

     The BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 500 stands as the second most historic race in off-road competition, an event that has featured legends such as Larry ‘Mr. Baja’ Roeseler, Parnelli Jones, Bobby Ferro, Steve McQueen, Ivan ‘Ironman’ Stewart, Walker Evans, Larry Ragland, Bob Gordon, Manny Esquerra, Corky McMillin, Jack Johnson, Danny Hamel, Dan Smith, and Eric Solorzano.

      This is one of the most important sporting and tourism events on the Ensenada municipal calendar, led by Mayor Claudia Agatón Muñiz, and is projected to generate an economic impact of more than 170 million pesos. Economic activity will begin with course pre-running by participating teams on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and continue through Sunday, June 7, 2026, when racers return to their home destinations.

     The race course will cover 468.85 miles for Pro motorcycle and car classes, and 381.10 miles for Sportsman motorcycle and car divisions. The official time limit to complete the race is 18 hours for all racers.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

     Online registration for the various Pro and Sportsman motorcycle and car classes is available through the official SCORE website. All information related to SCORE races can be found on the website under the race information menu.

     Online racer registration will close on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 9 p.m. PT. In-person racer registration at the SCORE office in Ensenada will take place on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 5 p.m. PT.

A FESTIVE ATMOSPHERE AWAITS ON BULEVARD COSTERO

     Tech inspection and contingency row of race vehicles by SCORE technical officials will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, along Ensenada’s vibrant Bulevard Costero, which will also serve as the start and finish area for the event, located just steps from the Pacific Ocean.

     The official start will be on Saturday, June 6, 2026, on Bulevard Costero in Ensenada, with motorcycles beginning at 3:00 a.m. PT. The SCORE Baja 500 opening ceremony will take place at 8:15 a.m. PT, followed by the start of the first four-wheel vehicle at 9:00 a.m. PT

     Ensenada is located 116 kilometers south of the U.S. border crossing at San Ysidro, California, on the western side of the Baja California peninsula, with the Pacific Ocean running alongside the city. All four SCORE events in 2026 will be held in Mexico, specifically within the Baja California peninsula, marking the 11th consecutive year this format has taken place.

EL RIVIERA, THE CATHEDRAL OF OFF-ROAD

      ESPN X Games living legend Rat Sult, the official voice of SCORE International, will mark 11 years in that role with the world’s most prestigious off-road organization. He will lead the SCORE Baja 500 awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Catedral Room of the Riviera de Ensenada Center, beginning at 12:30 p.m. PT.

     This event will serve as the “grand finale” of the second round of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship, recognizing the winners of the iconic off-road race across more than 40 Pro and Sportsman motorcycle and car classes.

MEDIA REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

     Media outlets may now register for coverage of the BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 500. Registration can be completed by accessing the following link: https://score-international.com/score-media/index.php, where participants must fill out the registration form to be part of the Round 2 of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship.

     A new, more user-friendly media registration format has been introduced, thanks to the vision of Jack Wright of nMedia3, who continues to prioritize maximum media support throughout the SCORE season. The deadline for online media registration is Friday, May 29, 2026.

     SCORE Media Center will also offer in-person registration at the Red Room of the Riviera de Ensenada Center on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. PT; Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. PT; and Friday, June 5, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT.

METHOD RACE WHEELS QUALIFYING

     In a format inspired by Formula 1 and the NASCAR Series, SCORE will conduct the Method Race Wheels Qualifying session on Thursday, June 4, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. PT, to determine the starting grid in the following classes: SCORE Trophy Truck, SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD, SCORE Trophy Truck Legend, Class 1, and Trophy Truck Spec.

     Entries received after Friday, March 13 will be assigned the next available starting positions within each qualifying category. The qualifying order will be determined by SCORE based on the date each team completes its online registration.

     The Method Race Wheels Qualifying is a non-spectator event held on a private property course and will be broadcast live across SCORE digital platforms.

THE ORIGINS OF THE BAJA 500

      To everything there is a beginning and the launch of SCORE International’s remarkable history in Mexico came on July 26, 1974 when what has become the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization was asked to take over and officially produced its first SCORE Baja race – the SCORE Baja Internacional in Ensenada, Baja California.
     As SCORE continues its sixth decade this year, the Baja 500 started in 1969 by the NORRA organization but because of legal challenges regarding the use of the name after NORRA was removed as the official U.S. desert racing promoter in Mexico by the government at the end of 1972, SCORE had to use the name SCORE Baja Internacional for nearly two decades.

      Eventually then-SCORE owner Sal Fish was able to negotiate the use of the original name of the race and it became duly registered as the SCORE Baja 500. In 1973, the Baja 500 was organized and produced by a local tourism group called the Baja Sports Committee.

THE ARRIVAL OF SCORE IN MEXICO
     With tremendous assistance from Nico Saad, long-time Ensenada tourism advocate and owner of the legendary San Nicolas Hotel & Casino in Ensenada, Mickey Thompson and his fledgling SCORE International organization were invited by the Mexican government to take over the Baja 500 starting in 1974 and become the exclusive U.S. promoter for Baja California.
     Thus came the birth of the SCORE Baja Internacional (legal issues precluded SCORE from gaining the rights to use the name Baja 500 until 1991). The first SCORE Baja Internacional (produced by Mickey Thompson and Sal Fish) was held on July 26, 1974 in Ensenada with 279 official starters and 173 official finishers.   But fans, media and racers alike have always called it the Baja 500.
     Noted Hollywood stunt driver and Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Ferro won the overall 4-wheel vehicle title for the third of four times in his career in 1974, this time in a VW-Sandmaster open-wheel desert race car. The fastest overall motorcycle in this 1974 race was the Husqvarna with Mitch Mayes and A.C. Bakken sharing the riding duties.

     ENSENADA, Baja California, México– Ya son más de 5 décadas de emociones por los desiertos, montañas y playas de Ensenada, Baja California, México, con la espectacular SCORE Baja 500, la segunda fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International que cuenta ya con inscripciones abiertas en www.Score-International.com, carrera fuera de camino forma parte de la “Triple Corona de Baja”, junto a la legendaria SCORE Baja 1000 y la SCORE San Felipe 250.
      La edición 58 de la BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 es la segunda carrera de mayor tradición en el Off-Road, carrera fuera de camino en la que han participado leyendas del Off-Road como Larry “Mr. Baja” Roeseler, Parnelli Jones, Bobby Ferro, Steve McQueen, Iván “Hombre de Acero” Stewart, Walker Evans, Larry Ragland, Bob Gordon, Manny Esquerra, Corky McMillin, Jack Johson, Danny Hamel, Dan Smith y Eric Solórzano.
       Este es uno de los eventos deportivos y turísticos más importantes en el calendario de eventos del municipio de Ensenada que encabeza la Presidenta Municipal Claudia Agatón Muñiz, y proyecta generar una derrama económica de más de 170 millones de pesos, misma que comenzará desde los recorridos a la ruta de los equipos participantes, Sábado 23 de Mayo de 2026, hasta que los corredores regresen a sus destinos de origen el Domingo 7 de Junio de 2026.
        La ruta para las clases Profesionales de motocicletas y carros será de 468.85 millas, y de 381.10 millas para las categorías Sportsmans de motocicletas y carros. El tiempo límite para terminar la carrera es de 18 horas para todos los equipos participantes.

       El registro por internet para corredores finalizará el Viernes 22 de Mayo de 2026 a las 9 de la noche, tiempo del Pacífico. La inscripción de corredores en persona dentro de la oficina de SCORE en Ensenada será el Viernes 29 de Mayo de 2026 a las 5 de la tarde, tiempo del Pacífico.

NOS ESPERA UNA FIESTA EN EL BULEVAR COSTERO
        La revisión mecánica y la inspección técnica de los vehículos participantes por parte de oficiales técnicos de SCORE, se realizará el Viernes 5 de Junio de 2026 en el colorido Bulevar Costero de Ensenada, mismo escenario para la zona de arranque y meta del evento, a unos metros solamente de las aguas del Océano Pacífico.
         El banderazo de salida para los corredores, será el Sábado 6 de Junio de 2026 en el Bulevar Costero de Ensenada, con las motocicletas arrancando a las 3 de la mañana, a las 8:15 de la mañana se realizará la ceremonia de apertura de la SCORE Baja 500, y a las 9 de la mañana arrancará el primer vehículo de 4 ruedas.
         Ensenada se encuentra a 116 kilómetros de la garita fronteriza de los Estados Unidos en San Ysidro, California, en el lado oeste de la península de Baja California, y contando con el majestuoso Océano Pacífico a un costado solamente. Las 4 fechas de SCORE en este 2026, se realizarán en México, en específico, dentro de la península de Baja California, algo que sucederá por onceavo año en fila.
EL RIVIERA, LA CATEDRAL DEL OFF-ROAD
        La leyenda viviente de los X-Games de ESPN, Rat Sult, la voz oficial de SCORE International, cumplirá 11 años en esa labor dentro de la organización más prestigiada a nivel mundial dentro del Off-Road, quien encabezará la ceremonia de premiación de la SCORE Baja 500 que se realizará el Domingo 7  de Junio de 2026 en el Salón Catedral del Centro Social, Cívico y Cultural Riviera de Ensenada a partir de las 12:30 de la tarde, tiempo del Pacífico.
        Esta actividad que será el “broche de oro” en la segunda fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International, servirá para reconocer a los ganadores de la espectacular carrera fuera de camino en las más de 40 clases profesionales y sportsmans para motocicletas y carros.

LA CALIFICACIÓN METHOD RACE WHEELS
       Al más puro estilo de la Fórmula 1 o la Serie Nascar, SCORE llevará a cabo la Calificación Method Race Wheels, evento que se realizará el Jueves 4 de Junio de 2026 a partir de las 8 de la mañana, tiempo del Pacífico, para definir la “parrilla de salida” en las siguientes categorías, SCORE Trophy Trucks, SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD, SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend, Clase 1 y Trophy Truck Spec.
        Los registros de corredores que se reciban después del Viernes 13 de Marzo, contarán con el siguiente espacio disponible en cada una de las categorías que estarán calificando. El orden de calificación será definirá en SCORE, de acuerdo con la fecha en que cada equipo llene su registro por internet.
        La Calificación Method Race Wheels es una actividad sin acceso a espectadores, evento que contará con una ruta en una propiedad privada, y que será transmitida en vivo por las diferentes plataformas en internet de SCORE International.

EL ORIGEN DE LA BAJA 500

     Todo tiene un principio, y el lanzamiento de la notable historia de SCORE International en México ocurrió el 26 de Julio de 1974, cuando la principal organización de carreras fuera de camino del mundo fue invitada a hacerse cargo y producir oficialmente su primera carrera de SCORE Baja: la SCORE Baja Internacional en Ensenada, Baja California.
    A medida que SCORE continúa hacia su sexta década de vida, la Baja 500, que comenzó en 1969 bajo la guía de NORRA, organización que ya no pudo realizar la carrera al no darse un acuerdo con el gobierno de Baja California a finales de 1972, entrando SCORE International para encargarse de la logística de la carrera.

    Eventualmente, el entonces propietario de SCORE, Sal Fish, pudo negociar el uso del nombre original de la carrera, y, este fue debidamente registrado como la SCORE Baja 500. En 1973, la Baja 500 fue organizada y producida por un grupo local de turismo llamado el Comité de Deportes de Baja.

LA APARICIÓN DE SCORE EN MÉXICO
    Con la gran ayuda de Nico Saad, un defensor de largo tiempo del turismo en Ensenada y propietario del legendario San Nicolás Hotel & Casino en Ensenada, Mickey Thompson y su nueva organización SCORE International fueron invitados por el gobierno mexicano para hacerse cargo de la Baja 500 a partir de 1974 y convertirse en el promotor exclusivo de Estados Unios para Baja California.
    Así nació la SCORE Baja Internacional (cuestiones legales impidieron que SCORE obtuviera los derechos para usar el nombre Baja 500 hasta 1991). La primera SCORE Baja Internacional (producida por Mickey Thompson y Sal Fish) se celebró el 26 de Julio de 1974 en Ensenada, contando con 279 equipos participantes oficiales y 173 equipos que cruzaron la meta en esa ocasión. Pero los aficionados, medios de comunicación y corredores siempre la han llamado la Baja 500.
    El famoso conductor de acrobacias de Hollywood y miembro del Salón de la Fama del Off-Road, Bobby Ferro, ganó el título overall de vehículos de 4 ruedas por tercera vez en su carrera en 1974, esa vez en un buggy Sandmaster con motor Volkswagen. La motocicleta más rápida en la carrera, fue la Husqvarna tripulada por Mitch Mayes y A.C. Bakken, quienes dividieron la odisea en esa ocasión.
