ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—When legendary Sal Fish first convinced engineers from the fledgling BFGoodrich Tires company to come and check out a SCORE Baja race back in 1975, even the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee and former SCORE President and owner (1974-2012) wasn’t sure how this relationship would work out.

Fast forward to 2025 and BFGoodrich Tires will be racing in the BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 1000 for the 50th time on November 10-16 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

A former Publisher of Hot Rod Magazine, Fish was trying to expand the scope of the neophyte SCORE back then and felt that a company like BFGoodrich Tires would be a great fit for SCORE International, founded by the late Mickey Thompson in 1973.

“At the time, I was aggressively trying to expand the reach of SCORE and it really seamed to me that BFGoodrich Tires would be a good partner for SCORE,” remembered the venerable Fish. “Hindsight is always 20-20. and to this day, SCORE has not had a better official sponsor than BFG which has been SCORE’s official tire for 49 years now. We would like to think that SCORE contributed heavily to the expansion of BFGoodrich Tires in the international marketplace. BFGoodrich Tires is unequalled when it comes to all forms of off-road racing worldwide.”

From the humble beginning of Fritz Kroyer being the first entry on BFGoodrich Tires in the SCORE Baja 1000 in 1976 (unfortunately ending with a DNF), BFG has established an unrivaled record of 34 overall race wins in the iconic SCORE Baja 1000.

In the 1977 race the late Frank ‘Scoop’ Vessels gave BFGoodrich Tires its first class win in this race and the now prominent world-wide tire manufacturer earned its first overall win in the 1986 Granddaddy of all Desert Races on the Chenowth-Porsche Class 1 unlimited open-wheel desert race car with Mark McMillin and Ralph Paxton behind the wheel.

Including that 1986 SCORE Baja 1000, BFGoodrich Tires-equipped vehicles have won a SCORE-record 34 overall victories out of the 49 races the tire-manufacturer has had teams.

A total of 40 different drivers have helped BFGoodrich Tires establish the enviable record of 34 overalls, led by Las Vegas’ Rob ‘The G.O.A.T’ MacCachren who has won seven of those crowns. Among the other drivers with overall wins for BFGoodrich Tires have been Larry Ragland, Cave Creek, Ariz., with five overalls on BFGs, and with four each are Larry Roeseler, Boulevard, Calif., and San Diego cousins Andy McMillin and Luke McMillin.

Cheers to BFGoodrich Tires from SCORE International on this amazing accomplishment.
