Biography

A tenacious competitor who has carved out a solid reputation in SCORE's challenging Baja Challenge series, John Leon demonstrated his desert racing mettle with a determined 8th place finish at the grueling Baja 1000. Racing car #BC11 alongside an experienced crew including Paul Gurule, Bryan Scheible, Mary Scheible, Mark Stahl, and Jason Torchinsky, Leon completed the legendary 1000-mile odyssey in 44:32:06, showcasing the reliability and endurance that defines successful desert racers.

The Baja Challenge series, featuring spec Subaru-powered touring cars, represents one of SCORE's most competitive classes where driver skill and strategic pit work often determine success over raw horsepower. Leon's ability to navigate the treacherous Baja Peninsula terrain while maintaining consistent pace speaks to his technical driving abilities and race craft developed through years of desert competition.

Based in Homestead, Florida, Leon brings an East Coast perspective to the predominantly West Coast desert racing scene, demonstrating the universal appeal of SCORE's premier events. His commitment to assembling experienced co-drivers and navigators reflects the collaborative nature of long-distance desert racing, where teamwork and preparation are as crucial as driving talent in conquering Baja's unforgiving landscape.
