Johnny Buss

Northridge, CA - #256

Biography

A true veteran of SCORE desert racing, this 61-year-old Northridge competitor brings decades of experience to the punishing Baja Peninsula courses. Racing in the highly competitive Trophy Truck Spec class, he pilots his #256 Armada-Chevy alongside co-driver James Levesque, tackling the world's most challenging desert terrain with unwavering determination.

His participation in the legendary Baja 1000 showcases the grit and endurance that defines elite desert racing. Competing against international fields of drivers from Australia to Mexico, he represents the Southern California desert racing tradition that has made the region synonymous with off-road excellence. The Trophy Truck Spec class, featuring unlimited trucks with stock, sealed V8 engines, demands both raw speed and mechanical reliability across hundreds of miles of unforgiving desert.

Beyond the cockpit, he embodies the spirit of desert racing—where preparation, teamwork, and split-second decision-making separate finishers from the desert's casualties. His partnership with veteran co-driver Levesque reflects the collaborative nature essential for success in multi-day endurance events. Each race represents not just competition, but a test of man and machine against some of the world's most demanding terrain, from Baja's rocky mountain passes to its treacherous silt beds.
