Huerta's crowning achievement came in 2016 when he captured the SCORE Class 1 championship after an intense season-long battle against the formidable Wilson Team. Fighting for every race point against both Ronny Wilson and his son Brad Wilson, Huerta demonstrated remarkable consistency and determination throughout the campaign.

The championship fight came down to the wire at the 49th SCORE Baja 1000, where Huerta's strategic second-place finish secured enough points to claim the title, despite Ronny Wilson's race victory.
