Jano Montoya’s first-place finishes in every SCORE race in 2023 netted him both the Pro Moto 30 and overall Moto championships. While his record might lead you to believe he had a trouble-free racing season, that wasn’t quite the case. In both the SCORE San Felipe 250 and the SCORE Baja 500, fuel injector problems plagued him. “In the San Felipe 250, we actually ended up burning two injectors,” he says. “But we were able to fix them just in time to keep going.” The issues in both races led the team to trace the problem to fuel filters that weren’t up to the task and caused the fuel pump to work too hard. On the early morning start of the 3rd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels, a line nearly 1/8-mile-long of moto and quad racers prepare themselves for the long 393.8-mile journey ahead of them. The dark is only illuminated by the large SCORE LED board that counts down the seconds for racers to begin the race off the Boulevard Costero, in front of the Riveria Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Their minds are all focused on getting to their next stop along the course in good time, avoiding the rocks, deep silt, ruts, and other competitors that may prevent them from getting there in the fastest time possible. At the start of the 3rd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels, Juan Carlos Salvatierra and the 10x team of Arturo Salas Jr., Shane Logan, and Clayton Roberts were ready to continue to add another SCORE Pro Moto Unlimited win to the season. They had already won the SCORE San Felipe 250 and the SCORE Baja 500, but when they heard they would start fifth from the draw, they were disappointed but not undeterred. “We’re hopeful to do well in the race,” said Salvatierra in a pre-race interview. “I ran this race last year in Pro Moto Ironman and won it. Now, the team and I are going to put our best effort to win this in the Pro Moto Unlimited Class. Everyone in our team is ready and putting out all their effort to ride their course on the race. We’re not a big team but I believe we’re very capable.” Read More
