On the early morning start of the 3rd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels, a line nearly 1/8-mile-long of moto and quad racers prepare themselves for the long 393.8-mile journey ahead of them. The dark is only illuminated by the large SCORE LED board that counts down the seconds for racers to begin the race off the Boulevard Costero, in front of the Riveria Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Their minds are all focused on getting to their next stop along the course in good time, avoiding the rocks, deep silt, ruts, and other competitors that may prevent them from getting there in the fastest time possible. Francisco Septien began training for the Pro Moto Ironman Class in the 2014 SCORE Baja 1000 almost immediately after he attended the SCORE Baja 500 that same year. It was at the June race Francisco decided he wasn't getting any younger and had to do the "1000" solo that year or he likely would never do it. "One of my idols, when I was very young, was Ivan "Ironman" Stewart, and I have always had a lot of respect for those racing solo in their classes (trucks, buggies, or bikes) in the past or now in the Pro Moto Ironman Class," said Septien. That year, the SCORE Baja 1000 was a peninsula run that stretched approximately 1,200 miles from the start line in Ensenada to the finish line in La Paz. It was a race that would require more than just an ordinary amount of preparation. It would require all that, and inspired dedication to doing it solo. Read More
The 2019 SCORE season started badly for Francisco Septien, posting a DNF at the San Felipe 250, but he moved back to the top of Class 30 by winning the SCORE Baja 500 and Lucerna SCORE Baja 400. He and the 370x team again wanted to continue by finishing first in this race, but it began with team issues. “We had a rider withdraw three days before the race, which left us to ride more miles each for our sections,†said Septien. “We didn’t pre-run that section so we got lost and it cost us some time.†Read More
