Lance Clifford has carved out an impressive career in SCORE desert racing, highlighted by his championship victory in the prestigious Baja Challenge class at the 2019 SCORE Baja 1000. As part of the winning BC1 team alongside Brian Finch, Bill Weber, Bob Bower, Kyle Tucker, Lawrence McRae, and Brad Lovell, Clifford helped secure first place in what was one of the largest Baja Challenge fields in recent history during the race's historic 50th anniversary.
The Hurricane, Utah native has demonstrated remarkable consistency and skill across multiple SCORE events, competing in various classes including the demanding Baja Challenge spec series and Stock class competition. His 2019 Baja 1000 victory was particularly notable as the BC1 team not only claimed the class championship but also finished among the top performers overall, maintaining a fast pace throughout the grueling 1,133-mile course.
Clifford's racing resume reflects his versatility as a desert racer, having competed in both the legendary Baja Challenge touring cars and traditional Stock class vehicles. His ability to work effectively as part of multi-driver teams while maintaining competitive speeds across Baja's punishing terrain has established him as a respected competitor in the SCORE desert racing community.
While the Baja Challenge class has a record for 100 percent finishes of everyone in the class, this race proved to be difficult even for them. Among this year’s winners was the BC1 team of Lance Clifford, who persevered despite fixing a bad clutch and finished first. “We had no flats but did lose a clutch,†said Clifford. “We got that fixed but it took three hours. We were down 60 miles so we had to go for it and put the hammer down. We kept it on the course and got lucky. It was great. Thank SCORE, Wide Open, and BFGoodrich for everything they did for us.†Read More
